Babymoon Ideas That Are Easy and Affordable

When people think babymoon, they tend not to think about easy, simple and cheap trip ideas.

When I was pregnant, a babymoon was something I knew from the beginning of my pregnancy that I wanted to do with my husband. Even if it was something little, I knew we needed to have some time away before the arrival of our first little one.

However, I didn’t want to go anywhere far or expensive so we needed to plan something that didn’t take too much work to plan, was relatively close, and would still be a nice getaway for us!

WHAT IS A BABYMOON?

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, a babymoon is a little getaway you and your partner take before the arrival of your baby. It’s a chance for you and your partner to connect and to spend alone time together before it gets really hard to be alone!

Along with the chance to have some alone time, there are many reasons to take a babymoon.

REASONS TO TAKE A BABYMOON

  1. Who knows the next time you’ll be able to pick up and leave without any responsibilities or without bringing the kids along?
  2. Pregnancy and getting ready for the baby can be stressful. This is a perfect chance to forget about being prepared and to get back to the exciting feeling of knowing your baby is coming soon.
  3. It’s a chance to slow down, reconnect, and reflect on your pregnancy. Maybe it was really hard for you, maybe you loved it, but you’ll never feel this little one inside you again! Try and appreciate the last moments.

Because of the timing of my pregnancy, we were able to have a Valentine’s Day/babymoon getaway wrapped into one. My husband surprised me and planned a wonderful weekend only an hour and a half away, at a nice hotel.

We didn’t go far, as I was close to my due date and I really didn’t feel like traveling far anyway. I had just gotten back from a Europe trip in December.

taking a relaxing trip before baby's arrival
Our Babymoon Hotel Rooftop in Halifax, NS

We had a lovely room on the top floor and were able to go up onto the roof for a beautiful view. We had a perfect dinner at a fancy restaurant we were able to walk to from our hotel.

The restaurant was right by Halifax harbor, and it was a lovely night, so after dinner we took the longer way back to the hotel and walked along the water.

We had a nice relaxing night in, and the next day did some baby shopping. It was exactly what I needed, just to get away and relax!

A babymoon can be anything from a lovely date night, to a one-night getaway, and up to a trip out of the country to somewhere warm and tropical.

For those of you, who like me were looking for something lowkey and relaxing, here are some easy and affordable babymoon ideas.

SIMPLE, RELAXING, AND AFFORDABLE BABYMOON IDEAS

GO ON A CAMPING TRIP

I hate camping. Which is funny, because where we moved to everyone seems to camp or have a camper or RV. As much as I love hiking and being in nature, I don’t like sleeping in it.

However, if you’re the camping and super outdoorsy type, go on a camping trip!

Take an air mattress if sleeping on the ground doesn’t sound appealing (it sure doesn’t to me). Also, bring lots of pillows (particularly a pregnancy pillow like this one) and blankets, and even more snacks.

If you’re looking for some healthy snacks, here is a whole box full of healthy snacks you can even subscribe to on Amazon!

Another great subscription program for healthy snacks is Urthbox. They send you an awesome box of healthy snacks every month!

Even a mini trip in your backyard or even your living room counts as a little getaway!

HAVE A STAYCATION

I think staycations are my husband’s favorite. Take a look at some things going on in your area. Have a movie night in and get take out.

Sometimes these are the best vacations – the ones where you don’t have to stress about planning anything, you don’t have to get dressed up and you don’t have to see or talk to anyone else but each other in the comfort of your own home.

Sounds like a dream come true to me.

BOOK A HOTEL ROOM OR AIRBNB

You could do what we did and book one night in a hotel nearby, or an Airbnb. Airbnbs are typically cheaper, and you can find some really cute and cozy ones that feel like home away from home.

Just the act of being somewhere else was enough for me. This way, even if you’re not far from home, you don’t have to worry about cleaning up after yourselves or cooking for one night.

You can also check out things that are going on in another city not too far away from you.

Less travel time is also a major plus for an increasingly uncomfortable pregnant woman with a growing belly.

DATE NIGHT

A babymoon doesn’t have to be an extravagant night away. It can simply be a really nice dinner and a movie, where you talk and just enjoy each other’s company.

Think of something you and your partner like to do together and plan a night or a day away to do that.

Maybe go somewhere you wouldn’t normally go, or somewhere you’ve been dying to try for a long time but haven’t got around to.

You could even do a restaurant tour. Go somewhere for appetizers, somewhere else for dinner, and somewhere else for dessert.

Make it fun and creative!

GET A COUPLES MASSAGE AND SPEND A DAY AT THE SPA

A babymoon is all about relaxing. Find somewhere that does prenatal massages and they will most likely be able to do couples massages too.

Prenatal massages are great for relieving pregnancy aches and pains. They can even help prepare your body for an easier labor.

Get a facial together. Some men love this! Whoever your partner is, getting a facial or even just doing some face masks together can be super relaxing.

If your partner is into it, you could even get a manicure and pedicure together. Any salon will do men’s care as well and it’s just as important for men as it is for women!

These are just five easy, relaxing and affordable ways to get the most out of your last few weeks or days together.

PACKING AND PREPARING FOR YOUR BABYMOON

No matter where you go or what you do for your babymoon, make sure to keep your comfort a priority. Wear something comfortable and cute, like these Sketcher Honeycomb flats, and bring clothing appropriate for your trip.

If you’re flying or driving for longer distances, make sure to stay hydrated and stretch as often as possible. Take as many breaks as you need to, and make sure you have health insurance if you’re going far! Also make sure to get the okay from your doctor.

Depending on when you go during your pregnancy, you may also want to bring an extra bag with your hospital gear in it.

I brought along my hospital bag just in case, even though we weren’t going that far. I was only a couple weeks away from my due date and baby could come any day.

Baby didn’t come… but I was prepared!
