What mama doesn’t want to make their daily life a little bit easier?

I’ve only been a mama for two and a half years. I feel like in those two and a half years I’ve spent a lot of time trying to find ways to make life easier as a new mom.

Here’s a little secret I have found out so far – a bath at the end of the day is not the answer to better mental health as a mom.

Sure it absolutely can help you unwind and sleep better. There are definitely days that may be all you need, but today I’m talking about habits that will really change your life in the long run.

It’s no secret that being a mom is hard, but you really have no clue how hard until you become a mom yourself.

Of course that’s not to say that it’s not everything I wanted and more!

However, I find that I (and I’m sure lots of other moms), tend to try and do all the things while parenting and it’s just not always possible.

We tend to put ourselves on the backburner. Not today mama! Today I’m giving you some tricks that will make your life easier, with no guilt and no shame.

Because a happier mom means a better mom for your kids. Fill your cup!

I’ve recently set out to try and find some good, realistic and actionable habits that really can make my life easier, and give me more time with my son.

I want to share those with you!

As a new mom I love to use anything and everything to help keep my days and weeks a little more organized. That’s why I created these adorable daily planner pages! It’s a week’s worth of pages you can print off as much as you want to plan out your days and stay on top of everything!

This Is My Fav Tip for Making Life Easier as a Mom

I recently read a post from Twins And Coffee Blog about how she got an awesome tip from her therapist (therapy in itself is an awesome habit to start).

Figure out a routine that works best and is realistic for YOUR lifestyle.

That means you don’t have to be that mom that wakes up at 5am to get a workout in, get a load of laundry in, breakfast made and whatever else all before the kids get up.

If that works for you, awesome! Keep it up!

But if not, then go with the flow.

Delete your alarms.

Get up when your kids do.

Slow your morning down and relax before getting a start on your day. Don’t rush it.

Again, if your lifestyle doesn’t allow for this then that’s totally fine. But don’t feel like you have to be that super early riser to feel like you’ve got it all together!

Try doing some of those things on your list at the end of the day, or during nap time. Try involving your kids in the breakfast making and the laundry doing. Or set them up with an activity or some extra tablet time (ignore that mom guilt) while you get it done.

I used to think I had to be up at the crack of dawn to get everything done and feel accomplished, but I’ve recently let that go and let me tell you it has changed things for me.

Yes getting up earlier means I usually get things done, but then the first thing on my mind is making sure that list gets started.

And for me, that just creates a whole spiral of anxiety, especially if I don’t end up waking up on time or my son wakes up a little earlier. I’m just drained the rest of the day.

So if you’ve tried the whole waking up early thing and it just isn’t working out, let it gooo! Try one of these other awesome habits to make mom life easier instead!

Other Ways to Make Mom Life Easier

  • Declutter – I don’t know about you, but too much stuff in my house is too much stuff in my mind. The less stuff you have (particularly the stuff you don’t use anymore) the less stuff there is to clean! Trust me, you’ll feel so much lighter.
  • Meal Plan – A little bit of time at the beginning of the week meal planning saves a lot of time and headache later on.
  • Order your groceries online and have them delivered or pick them up.
  • Create a snack bin for you AND the kids! Keep that energy up.
  • Write down a list of what you want to get done every morning. Organize it in terms of ‘must get done’ and ‘if I have time’.
  • Get a planner or family calendar. These Daily Planner Pages are adorable, and a literal lifesaver!
  • Spend less time on social media – it can be more draining and take up more of your day than you think!
  • If need be, ask for or hire help. If your budget allows, hire a cleaner once a week, every two weeks or a month. Use subscription food services like Chefs Plate and Hello Fresh, even for a few of your meals each week. Budget for some takeout every once in a while!
  • Speaking of budget, automate your finances so you spend less time sitting and paying bills yourself.
  • Work on mom guilt. Stop it in its tracks!
  • Schedule time for yourself, whatever that looks like.
  • Embrace independent play time. If your kids will play independently, leave them to it! Independent free-play is soo much more important for kids’ development than a lot of people know. Yes it’s nice to spend time with them playing as well, but don’t feel bad for not playing and engaging with your children 24/7. It’s perfectly healthy!

The most important thing, regardless of what you can actually pull from this list, is to start small. Work on one thing at a time and once you’ve worked that into your routine, maybe add something else.

The idea with this list is not to add more to yours! It’s to take a good look at what you’re doing in your everyday life as a hard working mother, and figure out where you can give yourself a break.

YOU DESERVE IT! Moms are amazing! You’re amazing!
