The Perfect 18 Month Old Schedule for Your Toddler

I know you’ve probably combed through a million different blog posts and Google articles for every transition your little one has gone through up to this point, but let me tell you something – no one knows your baby like you do, mama.

That being said, there are some typical patterns that most babies and toddlers tend to fall into.

They change often – I’m sure you know by now that as soon as you get into a decent schedule enter, teething, or regression, or growth spurt, or literally anything.

But, all babies, toddlers and children (and even most adults) tend to thrive off of routine. So, here is a tentative routine and schedule that I’ve attempted to flexibly stick to with my own son.

He is 20 months as I’m writing this, and transitioned to one nap around 15 months.

Nap transitions have always taken some time, but once we find a schedule that works for him it’s been relatively easy to stick to.

Here is our daily routine with our toddler! It works really well and I love a good routine!

DAILY ROUTINE WITH AN 18 MONTH OLD

6:00-7:00am Wakeup – Baby boy wakes up anywhere between 6 and 7am. Once he’s up, we changes his diaper and feed him breakfast. He typically has some milk in his Munchkin Straw Cup, and a nice, full breakfast. I try to get some good nutritional foods in his breakfast because it’s when he’s most accepting to different foods!

7:30am-9:30am Play – Usually I let him have some screen time in the morning while I drink my coffee, eat something, and wake up. Then we play! He is a huge climber, so he loves his Pikler Triangle.

9:30am Snack Time – Around this time we have a snack. Sometimes I let him eat at his Toddler Table and Chair Set for this meal, otherwise he sits in his Booster Seat at the table for most meals. He loves his fruit, and I get him these Kashi Granola Bars that he LOVES. They’re a healthy, easy and delicious snack!

10:00am-12:00pm Outside Time/Errands – This is when we take the dog to the dog park, go for a walk, play outside, do some grocery shopping or go to a play group. Anything that gets us out of the house!

12:00pm-2:30/3:00pm Nap Babe takes one nap a day now. He transitioned to his one nap around 15 months – you can read all about how we did it at the link below! Sometimes its 2 hours, sometimes 3. It really depends on what we did that day and his sleep the night before.

3:00pm Wake up and Snack – It’s usually best to give him something I know he really likes when he wakes up from his nap, as he tends to be a little picky around this time, but also pretty hungry.

3:00pm-5:00pm Play Time – Now we play some more! I start dinner around 4:30/5:00pm. Sometimes I put on more screen time so I can make dinner in peace, but sometimes I like to include him. He loves to help! If you’d like to include your toddler in more kitchen activities I highly suggest you invest in a Learning Tower. They’re amazing! We use ours every day and it saves me from carrying my son around the kitchen and gives him some independence.

5:30pm Dinner – My son has the same thing we eat for dinner. I always give him a full cup of milk with dinner and then that’s it for the rest of the night. If he wants anything else to drink he has water. If I fill him up too much with milk he doesn’t eat as well!

6:30pm/7:00pm Bedtime Routine – If baby boy is getting a bath we usually do it around 6:30. Otherwise we clean up his toys together and then head upstairs to read books and wind down before bed.

7:30pm Asleep – I always try to have him asleep by 7:30, 8 at the absolute latest!

That’s our daily routine with bubs!

I love our one nap schedule, although I do miss the day being broken up more by the two naps.

However, babes is at such an awesome age, although it’s hard sometimes, it’s so fun! He can do so much and is soaking everything in. I’m trying my best to spend as much time with him as I can, because these days go by so fast.
